The dirty dungarees, the checkered shirt and the hat this man wears would indicate that his nationality is most likely Australian--or at least that the picture may have been taken in Australia. The photo studio had a branch there, as well as London. An interesting character study.

The narrow border around the image, as well as the rounded corners of the mount would indicate that this is an early specimen of a c-d-v.
