A quintessential depiction of the famous Parisian district. Small children run and are guided by their mothers, and an elderly couple watch from their balcony - a typical working day in Paris.

Grunzweig's stamp on verso.

Grunzweig was born in Prague and escaped to the US from Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia in 1939, settling in New York City. He is particularly known for his documentary photographs of NYC, but he also traveled extensively around the United States and throughout the world. Grunzweig died in 2009, just short of his 99th birthday.

Grunzweig's work has been widely exhibited and can be found in many important collections including the Museum of Modern Art (NY), the International Center of Photography, the Jewish Museum (NY), the Israel Museum (Jerusalem), the Cooper-Hewitt Museum and the Seagram's Photo Collection.
