CONTEMPORARY WORKS/VINTAGE WORKS

Contemporary Work/Vintage Works will be in the very center of the exhibition hall, down the middle aisle in booth 211. The company's booth, including a jam-packed oversized closet, will feature a number of masterworks--from 19th-century to 20th-century modern to contemporary, such as the following:

--Photographs by 19th-century French master, Gustave Le Gray, including a stunning print of "Le Vapeur (The Tugboat), Normandy".

--A full-plate daguerreotype by Albert Sands Southworth and Josiah Hawes of "The Young Sisters".

--Four large and rare photographs of the Comtesse de Castiglione that were printed by the Braun company about 1930. The Countess was the Cindy Sherman of her day.

--A large and strong group of photographs by Eugene Atget, who was so revered by the Paris surrealists. This influential photographer has had several major shows devoted to his work recently, including a large retrospective this past year at the Musée Carnavalet, Paris.

--An over-sized Heinrich Kuhn landscape of which only one other copy has been located in a French museum, plus another smaller but also rare print by Kuhn.

--Several important vintage and later photos by Henri Cartier-Bresson, including a vintage print of his iconic "Rue Mouffetard" with the boy proudly carrying wine bottles.

--Early and vintage prints of some André Kertész's most important photographs, including the front and back cover images from his groundbreaking "Distortions" book and portraits of a secret lover from the 1920s.

--An early print of Walker Evans' "Penny Picture Display, Savannah, GA" actually printed by Evans before 1966. Most of the rest of the existing prints of this well-known image are later portfolio prints, which were not printed by Evans.

--Several important Irving Penn platinum photographs.

--Important vintage and early photographs by Brassai, Edward Weston, Horst, Barbara Morgan, Lewis Carroll, Jacques-Henri Lartigue, Charles Nègre, Aaron Siskind, Josef Sudek, Helmut Newton, Erwin Blumenfeld, Gyorgy Kepes, Yasuhiro Ishimoto, Raoul Ubac, Robert Doisneau and Minor White, among many others.

--Important contemporary pieces, including a very large color "puzzle" photograph by Vik Muniz (Orphan Girl at the Cemetery, after Delacroix), and very large-scale color work by contemporary artists Nobuyoshi Araki and Lisa Holden.

--A pair of extra large Helmut Newton's from the series the Bordighera Details, including Kiss, which is the cover on the latest Christie's auction (hint: our price is considerably lower than the auction house's, as are most of our photographs of a similar nature).

The company's booth will feature a number of masterworks--from 19th-century to 20-th century images, such as the following:

--An impressive group of daguerreotypes, including a number of nudes.

--A selection of important Afro-American material from the 19th to the 20th century, including photographs by Gordon Parks.

--A strong run of W. Eugene Smith photographs, including vintage prints of Welsh Miners and Worker with Raised Arms (from Taft and Ohio Series).

--An incredible collection of 1950s portraits of Weegee by Betty Popken, as well as their correspondence detailing their--to this point at least--unknown relationship.
