Online Photography Week Features Three Online/Catalog Sales

Online Photography Week will feature three online and catalog auction sales of historic and fine photographica on October 22, 23 and 24, 2003. The sales are presented by Capitol Gallery of Springfield, IL, Christopher Wahren of New Haven, CT, and Be-Hold of Yonkers, NY, and include material from a large single-owner collection. Offerings include daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, tintypes, Civil War images, cabinet cards, stereo images, rare cases, photographica and a variety of art and historic photography.

Noteworthy pieces include French, English and American daguerreotypes, including a stereo daguerreotype by Root, daguerreotypes of children with rocking horses and with sewing birds, two girls with a basket of fruit and very early pieces. Ambrotypes include a tinted whole plate of a family of five, men playing cards, a European peasant woman, a boy (barely) holding his puppy, and children with toys. Period cases include thermoplastic, as well as mother-of-pearl, cameo and rare Oreo-style cases.

There are also 20 views showing the excavation of the Paris Metro circa 1905, nudes by Barnard of London, architectural studies by Charles Marville and microscopic studies by the Civil War surgeon J.J. Woodward. Modern prints by Edouard Boubat and George Tice will also be offered.
